On Tuesday, October 26th, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) representatives, Kevin Costante, Deputy Minister, John Wilson, Regional Director, Susan Finney, Program Director, and staff and guests from MCSS, Community Living Huronia (CLH), Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene, and Catulpa Community Support Services, were on hand to declare the official opening of “Pineview”, a “New Places To Live” initiative.

The Minister of Community and Social Services, Sandra Pupatello, announced in March, 2004, the provision of funding through the New Places To Live initiative to CLH for the much needed development of a regional resource. This regional treatment program is for individuals with developmental disabilities and emotional or psychiatric disabilities.

Pineview, located on the Mental Health Centre grounds (Building #1), 500 Church Street, Penetanguishene, is a new Central East Regional Resource to accommodate the needs of five (5) individuals and support staff. It is a 24 hour dual diagnosis support home which includes a Mobile Resource Team that will assess the needs of each individual that is referred. Individuals will live in the residence for a period of up to six (6) months to a maximum of one (1) year while planning for their return home.

Staff training will also take place in the home communities of these individuals with an emphasis on building community capacity in each area of the Central East Region.
