COMMUNITY LIVING HURONIA

SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

In the past, employment opportunities for people with exceptionalities were extremely limited. Employment was available in sheltered workshops and in a very small employment service operated by CLH.

This was due to a general perception that people with exceptionalities were not capable of full employment. With direction from the Board of Directors, we have recently strengthened our commitment to employment. Two full time job coaches, have been added to the service. People who have indicated that they wish to work are being given the opportunity to experience work in the community. In the first year of our revised approach to Supported Employment, we have contacted 150 employers and developed 20 full and part time employment opportunities thus far.

The employment service goal is to ensure an appropriate job match between the skills of the potential employees and the skills needed by community employers. To help ensure successful job matches between employee and employer, employers are provided with a number of benefits including job coaches, time limited wage subsidies and ongoing follow-up service.
