Meet the Board of Directors
The CLH Developmental Support Services Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and accountability of the Association. Among their responsibilities are to establish the agency’s vision, mission, services principles, strategic priorities, and overall direction, and to monitor progress as well as compliance with relevant legislation.
Directors bring personal skills or knowledge in such areas as finance, law, fundraising, public relations, advocacy, banking, health, or education to CLH Developmental Support Services. Some also bring the knowledge and perspective of a parent or other family member of the people we support.
Our Directors help to build an inclusive community that embraces children, youth, and adults with developmental support needs and their families. We work with staff, other volunteers, and community partners towards goals that will help improve the quality of life of the people we support.
Directors attend Board meetings, which are held monthly (September to June), and an Annual General Meeting.
Lisa Harrison
President
Purpose-driven and with a strong belief in the ability of organizations to make a difference in our communities, Lisa has been an active volunteer and board member for many years, including four years as Chair of a Children’s Aid Society. Recently retired from her role as COO and Global Privacy Officer of Alimentiv, a Canadian clinical research company, she completed the ICD Corporate Directors program and is advising business founders and volunteering. That is when she and her husband’s family are not producing maple syrup on his grandparent’s farm near Vasey.
A graduate of the University of Western Ontario in business, Lisa spent the bulk of her career in high-growth companies leading change and scaling businesses. Her industry sector experience is broad with the majority of her time spent in IT/software development and health care. In her executive roles, she has focused on building and leading global corporate operations teams in human resources, IT, quality assurance, business development, finance, and legal services.
Originally from London, ON, Lisa and her husband now call Wasaga Beach home.
Sue Lyons
Vice President
With great enthusiasm, Dr. Susan Lyons has re-joined the Board of Directors with CLH Developmental Support Services, having previously dedicated 9 years to this board from 2008 to 2016.
Dr. Lyons owns and operates a very successful natural health centre, in the heart of downtown Midland, Ontario. Health Works Chiropractic & Wellness Centre is a multi-disciplinary health centre where Dr. Lyon’s focus is on improving the quality of life and health in our community and abroad.
Dr. Lyons has her Doctor of Chiropractic, Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology, and received formal training at Lakehead University for individuals with developmental support needs.
Dr. Lyons is a valued member of our community and gives back to the community in many ways. She is also one of the founding members of the G’Bay Gals Give, a group of women, grounded in the tradition of giving to our community.
Doug Thorhauge
Director
Doug was born and raised in Ottawa and moved to Midland in 2006 along with his wife Debbie and their two sons, Scott and Matthew. Doug has been in the financial service industry since 1992 and is working with TD Wealth as an Associate Investment Advisor. As part of Thor Wealth Management Group, they manage all of the financial affairs for high-net-worth individuals in the Georgian Bay area.
Over the past nine years of living in ‘cottage country’, Doug has enjoyed coaching Matthew’s minor hockey team and Scott’s Special Olympics bowling league.
Joe Evans
Director
Joe retired from the military after serving all over the world. He was also a valued member of the Ontario Provincial Police for 21 years, based out of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment. Joe is nestled right here in Tiny Township with his wonderful wife and best friend, his son Steven and his little angel Melissa. He enjoys working on his farm and snowmobiling with his family.
Joe was elected to the CLH Board of Directors in January 2019.
Kerrie Lalonde
Director
Born and raised in St. Catharines and relocating to Simcoe County in 2008, Kerrie started her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in the areas of acute care and outpatient rehabilitation. As the older sibling to her Autistic brother, Kerrie always knew that she wanted to work with adults with developmental disabilities. She has been working with Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca as part of the North Community Network of Specialized Care since 2013, with a clinical focus on adults with intellectual disability, dual diagnosis, and challenging behaviour. Kerrie has presented on the topics of Safe Swallowing Management and Augmentative Communication at the Health and Wellbeing in DD and OADD conferences. Kerrie has been involved as a lead member of clinical ethics committees for over 10 years.
An involved volunteer with Ducks Unlimited Canada, as both the chair of the Midland Ducks Unlimited Committee and provincial conference organizer; Kerrie enjoys planning large-scale events. Kerrie has facilitated Social Skills groups with Autism Ontario and is a clinical preceptor with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
Kerrie enjoys living in Waubaushene with her husband and two young boys.
Dwayne Frans
Director
Dwayne was born and raised in Simcoe County, he graduated from Georgian College with a three-year Business Administration course. Shortly after that he went to work with ServiceMaster and worked throughout Simcoe County. In 1997 Dwayne and his wife Tanya purchased ServiceMaster of Midland and moved up to Wyevale. In 2003 they purchased the ServiceMaster of Orillia. Dwayne and Tanya have three wonderful daughters.
Dwayne has been a Rotarian in Midland since he moved here in 1997. He is a board member of the Chamber of Commerce and recently finished two terms on the Huronia Community Foundations board.
Janet Weersink
Director
Janet Weersink was born in Penetanguishene and grew up in Midland. After a brief time away, she moved back to the Midland area where she and her husband of 24 years are raising their 3 sons: Christian, Matthew and Adam. Janet volunteered at her children’s elementary school with fundraisers, breakfast club, lunch baskets, and field trips, and sat on parent council for 10+ years.
Janet grew up in the retail sales industry as part of the family grocery store business for many years before purchasing Minds Alive Toy Store with her husband. After 5 years, they opened a second location in Collingwood, which was expanded into a larger space five years later.
As a member of the Neighbourhood Toy Stores of Canada, Janet was the Catalogue Coordinator for the past two years producing a nationally distributed toy catalogue.
Helen Pugacheva-Juncal
Director
Helen is a seasoned legal professional with a rich international background and a vibrant splash of creativity. Helen’s professional milestone in 2023 as a partner at Chin & Orr Lawyers, a respected firm with locations in Midland and Innisfil. Here, she deftly navigates various legal landscapes, exhibiting her expertise in corporate/business law, real estate, wills and powers of attorney, estate administration, and the intricacies of litigation.
Her practical wisdom is bolstered by a solid network built through BNI Ontario Central North and Georgian Bay Business Connections, where Helen has been a proactive member for nearly three years.
Born in Siberia, Russia, Helen’s legal journey commenced with her Russian law qualification in 2009. Unyielding boundaries then found her traversing to China, where she expanded her legal and linguistic repertoire, by completing her education in mandarin language and obtained a master’s degree in International Law there in 2015. In 2021, Helen’s diverse legal background merged with Canada’s own robust system, culminating in her call to the bar by the Law Society of Ontario.
Married to Joe for over a decade, Helen’s life in Victoria Harbour is a blend of nautical enjoyment and land-based pursuits. Language, much like law, is one of Helen’s fortes. Fluently trilingual, she navigates through English, Russian, and Mandarin, enabling her to connect and communicate with a broad spectrum of individuals and communities.
Jennifer Barron
Director
Jenn was born and raised in Port Severn and attended high school in Midland. She graduated college with a paralegal degree. She has continued to build a life here with her fiancé Stephen and two kids Emilie and Ethan.
She has been working in the financial industry for 10 years now in various roles and for the last 5 years has settled in at TD Canada Trust as a Business Account Manager. Jenn is passionate about helping local businesses, associations, and charities in our community.
Jenn enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, attending her son’s sports games and being out on beautiful Georgian Bay.
