AGING IN PLACE
WITH GRACE
The 2019 Red Carpet Evening raised awareness and financial support for a
CLH initiative that gives seniors in our residential houses the ability to “age in
place” and remain in their homes for as long as they choose to and as long as
possible. CLH supports more than 80 adults in residences located across North
Simcoe County. We are committed to focusing our efforts on improving and
upgrading the environments of people with developmental support needs who
have the desire to remain in their home as they age. As the people we support
get older, their support needs change, and become more complex. Currently,
40 percent of individuals supported by CLH in residential services are over the
age of 50, with our most senior individual having reached the milestone age
of 85. Our goal is to support individuals as they plan, implement and transition
into all aspect of their senior years. Like many aging people, they wish to be
able to maintain their quality of life, participate in making decisions about
their own care, and to remain in their homes where they are comfortable. The
value of this is immeasurable: by providing our supported seniors with the
environmental changes required for them to stay, they continue to be able to
live with independence and dignity in the home and community where they
have established themselves, built relationships and made memories.
